The Maxxis Assegai, Greg Minnaar's signature tire, offers outstanding, reliable grip across the whole tire profile regardless of the lean angle. You can use it on both the front and rear for a stable ride, or pair it with a faster-rolling rear tire at the front. It comes with multiple options, including dual compound, 3C MaxxTerra, or 3C MaxxGrip compounds; 60 TPI, DoubleDown (2x120 TPI), or Downhill (2x60 TPI) casings; EXO or EXO+ puncture protection. The Wide Trail (WT) sizes are optimized for 35mm inner width rims, and some specs are Tubeless Ready (TR). This tire is suitable for Trail, Enduro, and Downhill riding in all conditions and is recommended for front installation. Maxxis’ 3C MaxxTerra is an intermediate triple compound that offers more traction than 3C MaxxSpeed, better treadwear, and less rolling resistance than MaxxGrip, perfect for all trail conditions. The 3C MaxxGrip compound uses the stickiest rubber in Maxxis' mountain bike tires, used by top athletes, and is available in various casings for different riding needs. EXO is a cut- and abrasion-resistant sidewall material that doesn't affect tire performance, ideal for gravel, XC, and light-duty trail riding. EXO+ is a medium-duty puncture protection option for all-around trail riding and light e-bikes, with a durable casing, EXO layer, and butyl insert. DoubleDown (DD) is for enduro racing and e-bikes, combining two layers of 120 TPI casing and a butyl sidewall insert for durability and better trail feedback. Tubeless ready tires offer lower air pressure, less rolling resistance, and less chance of flatting, but need to be mounted on tubeless-compatible rims and use liquid sealant. Wide Trail (WT) construction optimizes tire performance on modern wider rims, and Maxxis Downhill tires are for extreme gravity applications with a double-layer 60 TPI casing and large butyl insert. Note that wirebead tyres (unfoldable) can't be shipped to Australia.

Using the Maxxis Assegai tire is quite straightforward. You can install it on the front wheel for better grip, or use it on both front and rear for a more stable feel. If you choose a tubeless-ready option, make sure to mount it on a tubeless-compatible rim and add a liquid sealant to maintain pressure. When riding, you'll notice great traction in all trail, enduro, and downhill conditions. For maintenance, regularly check your liquid sealant if you're using a tubeless setup. Sealant dries out over time, so refresh it as needed. Also, keep an eye on the tire for any signs of cuts or wear, especially if you're riding on rough terrains. If you have the EXO or EXO+ puncture protection, it'll help protect against damage from rocks and roots, but still be careful. When choosing the right casing and compound, consider your riding style. The 3C MaxxTerra is great for general trail riding, while 3C MaxxGrip is better for wet and slick conditions. And remember, wirebead tyres (unfoldable) can't be shipped to Australia.
